Antenova ships tiny GNSS active antenna module

September 5, 2018 - By

Antenova is shipping its ultra-small GNSS active antenna module for tiny positioning devices, the RADIONOVA M20047-1. The antenna module includes a low noise amplifier (LNA) and surface acoustic wave (SAW) filter for better positioning from difficult locations. Antenova Ltd. is a manufacturer of antennas and RF antenna modules for connected devices and the internet of things. The RADIONOVA M20047-1 is an active antenna... read more

TomTom and STMicroelectronics to offer geolocation tools and services

September 5, 2018 - By

STMicroelectronics and TomTom are offering a package of development geolocation tools in the STM32 Open Development Environment. The tools connect directly to TomTom Maps APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) for location, tracking and mapping data services, accelerating product development, and reducing time-to-market and development costs for developers, the companies said. The development package consists of an STM32 Discovery host board for... read more

GPS World survey: Capturing the world with maps

September 5, 2018 - By

New sensing and software tech spurs growth While UAVs are an exciting new technology for mapping, most respondents to our survey recognize the continued value of hands-on, in-the-field data collection. Most respondents think UAVs could be used for as much as half of data collection, but very few expect UAVs to be used for more than that. UAVs are just... read more

Inertial navigation emerges as winning co-star for transportation sector

September 5, 2018 - By

Signals other than GNSS are the key to positioning for both the transportation and machine control markets. While many solutions are being developed, inertial navigation systems (INS) are emerging as the primary GNSS co-star. In our survey, nearly three quarters (72%) of respondents in this sector said positioning could best rely on tight integration between GNSS and INS. For comparison,... read more

Trends, Obstacles and Opportunities Conducted online in July 2018, the GPS World State of the GNSS Industry survey compiled detailed answers to 30 key questions from 273 respondents, spread across six continents. Prominent insights gained, and outlined in these pages: the PNT sector is booming, as opportunities outnumber obstacles; well-trained engineers are at a premium; and the Internet of Things... read more

Information key to managing amid complex change for GNSS OEMs

September 5, 2018 - By

OEMs’ Global Economic Outlook There’s a saying that “Time stops everything from happening at once” — but what if it doesn’t? What if we are in a world in which the U.S. is borrowing growth from the future by increasing debt, China has slowing growth and risky finances, many developing and southern European countries have combinations of economic malaise, recession, high... read more

GPS World survey: UAVs on a roll to dominance

September 5, 2018 - By

The sector a driver for change across industries As precision guidance, autonomous operations, high-definition geocoded images and high-volume data processing all improve, drone use will continue to increase. OEM receiver manufacturers, sensor suppliers and data-handling companies play key roles in development, and stand to profit thereby. In particular, use of drones is growing in land management, construction, mining, and farming.... read more

Wireless and consumer emerge as key players for growth

The Now and the Mobile Next for SatNav With 106 operational GNSS satellites flying today (or was that yesterday’s number?) satnav’s backbone is robust, variegated, supportive of growth across many industries — and poised to leverage even more prosperity. I’ve seen forecasts of as many as 400 satellites, well beyond GNSS proper and involving low-Earth orbit telcomm constellations, constantly patrolling... read more
