TeleCommunication Systems Selects Locaid as Location-as-a-Service Partner

Locaid, a location-as-a-service company, and TeleCommunication Systems, Inc., (TCS) mobile communication technology company, have announced that TCS’ portfolio of mobile location-based products and services (LBS) will now incorporate Locaid’s location-as-a-service capabilities. This partnership provides wireless operators with access to rapidly deployable location technology for additional financial yield from their location infrastructure, the companies said.

GPS IIA Satellites a Concern for OCX

May 3, 2012

One of the long-standing issues for support of IIA vehicles after the future GPS Operational Ground Control Segment’s (OCX’s) ready-to-operate (RTO) date, which should fall in December 2016 at the latest, is what ground command-and-control (C2) system will steer GPS IIA satellites, do navigation uploads, and so on. The issue is that AEP, the current C2 system, will no longer be available once the transition to OCX takes place, and OCX has no requirement to control IIA satellites.

Russia to Increase Number of Space Service Centers to 25

April 25, 2012

The number of Russian centers providing services based on data received via GLONASS satellites will reach 25, Deputy Prime Minister Vladislav Surkov said Tuesday, according to a RIA Novosti report. The space service centers are engaged in satellite monitoring of traffic safety, road planning and cargo transportation on federal highways as well as natural dangers such as landslides, avalanches, and mud flows.

Gartner Says Worldwide Media Tablets Sales to Reach 119M Units in 2012, 369M Units in 2016

ITT Exelis, Chronos Team on Offerings for Interference, Detection and Mitigation

ITT Exelis and Chronos Technology Ltd. have agreed to jointly pursue and develop product offerings for the GNSS interference, detection and mitigation (IDM) market. Satellite-based positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) systems are vulnerable to many factors, such as signals jamming, resulting in potentially devastating system failures. The collaboration between ITT Exelis and Chronos Technology will allow both companies to respond to the IDM market by offering a set of complementary products and solutions.

GNSS Vulnerability and Alternative PNT

A group working under the auspices of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Navigation Services Directorate recently prepared a study assessing non-GNSS navigation system architectures to provide alternate positioning, navigation, and timing (APNT) services for aviation users, to mitigate GNSS vulnerability to radio frequency interference (RFI). The APNT architecture would be based on selected elements of today’s terrestrial navigation network, possibly upgraded, plus new elements anticipated for the 2025 timeframe.

Chronos Introduces GAARDIAN Project at ION GNSS 2009

Chronos Technology is introducing the academic and business research consortium working on the GAARDIAN Project at its booth (#728) at the ION GNSS conference taking place this week in Savannah, Georgia. Chronos is leading the consortium, which over the course of 2009 – 2011 will be researching the data-gathering necessary to develop a system for mission and safety critical applications that will certify the accuracy, reliability, integrity, and continuity of Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) systems: GPS, the new enhanced LORAN (eLORAN), GALILEO and GLONASS.
